R3 Energy LLC. provides premium quality biodiesel to Kansas and the surrounding areas. Located in the city of Cottonwood Falls, R3 believes that building a strong and lasting business means supporting local development through well paying employment, as well as the development of an alternative market for locally produced animal and plant oils. In order maintain a competitive edge, R3 Energy strives to offer its premium quality fuel (to the local market) at or below the pump price of dino-diesel.
Industry leading particulate filtration.
Traditional Diesel Fuel is filtered to between 10 and 30 microns. This is not nearly enough to protect your engine and reduce particulate emissions. R3 Biodiesel is filtered to less than 3 microns and thus far exceeds any current fuel standard!
Cold Soak Filtration
R3 Energy's industry leading cold soak filtration ensures that when the weather turns nasty, you won't be left out in the cold. When fuel (petroleum or bio based diesel) gets really cold, small amounts of impurities group together to form micelles (little spherical balls). Often these balls stay intact even after the fuel has been warmed back up. This is a significant cause of clogged fuel filters. Our fuel is different.
Fuel produced by R3 energy is passed through state of the art solid-state filters that remove these impurities to ensure you don't get a nasty surprise when you start you diesel up in the spring.
As of September 1st 2009, R3 Energy is the ONLY biodiesel producer in the state of Kansas to have invested in this crucial technology. This does not mean that R3 biodiesel won't gel or freeze, but it does mean that when the temperature rises, there will not be any lingering negative effects.
Biodiesel as a Lubricant
In 2006 the United States EPA mandated that almost all diesel fuel sold at the pump contain no more than 15 parts per million sulfur. As a result of this change in fuel composition the lubricity of diesel fuel was significantly decreased leading to increased "scarring" on engine components. Blending as little as 2% biodiesel into Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel has been shown to significantly improve lubricity and increase the lifespan of your engine.
Respiratory Health
Breathing particulate matter (soot, partially combusted fuel) is known to cause a wide variety of respiratory problems. Asthma, a common condition in both adults and children can be reduced by choosing to breath air with lower particulate levels. According to studies done by the EPA and the NBB, biodiesel exhaust contains 47% less particulate matter than traditional diesel exhaust.
Environmental Health
The ozone forming potential of the speciated hydrocarbon emissions from biodiesel is 50 percent less than that measured for traditional diesel fuel. (Source, National Biodiesel Board)

Energy Independence
R3 Energy produces biodiesel from domestic renewable sources. By lessoning our dependence on foreign oil we strengthen our country's position when negotiating with oil exporting countries.
Rural Development
R3 Energy LLC was partially funded by the USDA's rural development program. As a recipient of these funds we take community development very seriously.
By creating a new enterprise in a rural area we seek to provide safe well paying jobs to the community. Additionally steady employment supports the local real estate market and subsequently provides a tax stream to the local government.
Educational Services
Educators are encouraged to contact R3 to schedule education oriented field trips, or to request that a representative from R3 come speak to students. The opportunity to participate in the functions is highly valued by our staff.
